Program Notes:
 
(1,2) is my first composition exploring the versatility of the Bb clarinet. The piece is in a theme and variations form and is derived from the octatonic scale, which alternates half and whole steps. I created diverse textures in the solo through the use of articulations, wide ranges, and multiphonics. Each variation explores the theme through a different lens by manipulating rhythm, pitch, and order.
